Over the last few weeks, we've been exploring what culture means and how it impacts who we are. We've interviewed family members about traditions and celebrations, and learned about how they've changed over the years in our family. Students were tasked with creating a self-portrait to represent their culture. Then, students wrote a paragraph explaining their choice of symbols included in their portraits. Here are some examples!

Over the first couple of weeks of school, building a strong classroom community is an important aspect to create a safe learning environment for the students. This year, more than any other year, students have been working extra hard to build a sense of community as they are sitting apart and physical distancing. We created a classroom puzzle, where each student received a puzzle piece not knowing where it fit. They created their pieces to reflect themselves. Once all pieces were created, we put the puzzle together to create the whole picture that represents our class members.
See the photo below. Last week, Grade 2/3 students welcomed the start of a new school year. This year, being a year unlike any other, students need to be open-minded and risk-takers as many new routines and rules were put into place. Students easily adapted, got to know their new classmates, and quickly fell back into the routine of learning and having fun. Below are some photos of students working in their Défi-Maths workbooks, along with some outdoor yoga in Physical Education, and some fun at the park!
